What is a webhook tester?

A webhook is an HTTP request a service sends to your URL when something happens: Stripe after a payment, GitHub after a push, Shopify after an order. While you build the receiver, you need to see exactly what arrives, including headers such as the signature, the content type and the raw body your code will parse.

This tester gives you a public URL on api.testingapis.com. Every request sent to it, with any method and any path after the URL, is captured and shown here with its query string, headers and body. Paste the URL into the provider's webhook settings or send to it from your own code, and the request appears within a few seconds.

Use it to check a payload's shape before you write a parser, to confirm a provider really sends what its docs say, and to copy a real body into a test fixture. For signature checks, the API also serves signed sample events at /api/webhooks/samples.

How to use this tool

  1. 1A URL is created when the page opens. Copy it with Copy URL.
  2. 2Paste it into Stripe, GitHub, Shopify or any service's webhook settings, or send a request with the curl command shown.
  3. 3Captured requests appear on the left, newest first. Select one to see its method, path, query, headers and body; JSON bodies are formatted.
  4. 4Copy body puts the raw payload on your clipboard for a test fixture. New URL starts a fresh, empty bin.

Troubleshooting

Nothing shows up after the provider says it sent the webhook
Check that the whole URL was pasted, including the bin id at the end. Some providers only send after you save the endpoint or press a test button.
The provider reports a failed delivery
The bin answers 200 with a small JSON body. A provider that needs a particular reply, such as a challenge echo during setup, will still mark the endpoint unverified; test that step against your own receiver.
The body says truncated
Very large bodies are cut off when captured. The headers and the first part of the body are still shown.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account or an API key?

No. The URL works as soon as the page creates it.

Can other people see my requests?

Anyone who has the bin URL can read what it captured, so don't send real secrets or customer data. Make a new URL when you're done.

Can I call the bin API from my tests?

Yes. POST /api/webhooks/bins creates a bin and GET /api/webhooks/bins/{id} returns what it captured, so an automated test can trigger a webhook and then assert on the request.
